Sheldon Pride is a fourth generation descendant of east European immigrants who come to America in 1890 seeking new opportunities.
At an early age, Sheldon develops an interest in medical science because his beloved aunt is the victim of a rare disease. When Sheldon begins his research, the clues to this life-threatening disease have eluded investigation. As DNA studies shed new light on human genes, Sheldon learns the condition is actually an anomaly in his family's genetic code. His research takes him back to his family's country origin where he learns that the scope of the disease is much broader than imagined. In a race against the clock, Sheldon feverishly exhausts his mental and physical limits to discover a cure before more family members are lost.
