In this second book, Dean Folsom moves to Tucson to escape his past. He meets and befriends a hermit named Red. The two men stumble onto a plot to murder the President during an upcoming campaign stop in Arizona. Dean contacts the FBI, but his past catches up with him, causing the investigators to place Dean at the top of their suspect list. The conspirators learn of Dean's contact with the FBI, and soon Dean is caught between two parties bent on his destruction.
